Got a card in the mail about the A\O essay contest. Great Idea. Hopefully it will generate interest in American history and our group in particular. Way to go Exec. Committee !!

I had intended to get a posting up regarding this sooner, however The Geek Squad has been working on the computer. My thanks to Deb Smith and Vance Brown for their input and offer to judge this contest. My hope is the same as NoBow's if we can get young people interested in History and get them reading then mission accomplished. I hope members will spread the word and get the entries coming in.

For those that have not received the post card, here's the info: THE ANCIENT ONES OF MAINE ESSAY CONTEST The Ancient Ones Of Maine essay contest is open to family and friends of members in two age groups 10-12yrs. and 13-15yrs. Essays shall be of 200 to 250 words, and shall be of either a particular event or person of interest in U.S. History between the years of 1700 and 1840. Judging will be based on originality, quality, and legibility. A winner and a 1st runner-up will be selected from each age group. Winners in each age group will be awarded a $50.00 U. S. Savings Bond and an Ancient Ones tee shirt. 1st runner-up in each age group will be awarded an Ancient Ones tee shirt. - Entries shall include name, age, address and phone number for contact purposes. Entrant shall explain why this subject was chosen and a list of references used for information.
